Responsible wood fiber management is a key element in the sustainability
strategy of NewPage Corporation. For years, the company has supported all
credible sustainable forest management systems including the American Tree
Farm System® (ATFS), the Canadian Standards Association® (CSA), the Forest
Stewardship Council® (FSC), the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest
Certification (PEFC), and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI). These
systems ensure that our forest resources will be here for generations to come
to serve the environmental, social and economic needs of our society. All ten
NewPage mills carry multiple chain-of-custody certifications.

"We have worked extremely hard to support our chain-of-custody product sales
growth through the expansion of forest certification in the U.S. and Canada,"
said Fred Souba, Jr., vice president, Wood Supply and Sustainability for
NewPage. "We have to rely on and work with the entire supply chain to
encourage and support forest landowners to achieve forest certification. We
have a dedicated group of certification managers that work with area
landowners to generate more certified acreage."

NewPage sells certified products in line with customer and market demand.
These products include the Arbor(TM) line, Centura®, Futura® Laser, Sterling®
Ultra, Productolith®, Productolith® Pts., Anthem®, Fortune® and Expedition®.

"Our customers have a strong desire to show their commitment to sustainability
and responsible sourcing by purchasing products with chain-of-custody
certification," states Barry Nelson, senior vice president of Sales for
NewPage. "We have seen demand grow to the point that chain-of-custody
products are now required in many market segments. NewPage will continue to
respond to the market and supply products to meet that demand."
