LONDON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - European shares were set to rise on Friday, after
stronger financial stocks helped the Dow .DJI post triple-digit gains to close
back above 10,000, and with Asian markets also moving higher.
Financial spreadbetters expected Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE to open up to 47
points higher, or as much as 0.9 percent, Germany's DAX .GDAXI to open up to
70 points higher, or as much as 1.2 percent and France's CAC .FCHI to open up
to 51 points higher, or as much as 1.3 percent.
On Thursday, the FTSEurofirst 300 .FTEU3 index of leading European shares
fell 1.1 percent to close at 1,014.72 points.
The European benchmark index is still up more than 57 percent from its
lifetime low of March 9, as investors have become more confident on the
prospects for economic recovery.
Germany and France have come already out of recession. Data due at 0830 GMT
may show that the UK has joined them.
U.S. stocks rose on Thursday after several companies reported solid earnings
that lent credence to the idea corporate profitability has stabilised.
