UPDATE 1-Tesoro says plans Salt Lake crude unit restart

HOUSTON Oct 23 (Reuters) - Tesoro Corp (TSO.N) plans to restart on Friday the crude distillation unit at its 58,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Salt Lake City, Utah, a spokesman said.

The unit was shut on Wednesday afternoon by a power outage. During an attempt to restart the refinery that same day, a fire broke near a flare stack.

"We believe we will start the crude unit today," said Tesoro Salt Lake City spokesman Russ Jansen on Friday. "The flare system is working. We should be back and running today."

Tesoro Senior Vice President Lynn Westfall told Reuters earlier on Friday that other units at the refinery were using stored supplies while the crude unit was offline. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by David Gregorio)
