TORONTO Oct 27 (Reuters) - Canada unveiled new rules on Tuesday for private pension plans that it said will boost protection for members and reduce funding volatility.

In a statement, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said the government intends to boost the surplus threshold of regulated defined benefit plans, to 25 percent from 10 percent. (Reporting by Frank Pingue; Editing by Jeffrey Hodgson)
