WASHINGTON Oct 27 (Reuters) - A proposal to let the U.S. Treasury Department monitor the insurance industry will not be considered as planned on Tuesday at a congressional committee working session, said the committee's chairman at the opening of the session.

Democratic Representative Barney Frank, head of the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, said, "I'm not going to bring it up ... I believe that within a fairly short period of time we'll be able to bring up the insurance bill." (Reporting by Kevin Drawbaugh; Editing by James Dalgleish)
