Lilly and The Wellness Community(R) to Raise Awareness of Deadliest Cancer
During Lung Cancer Awareness Month

WHAT: On Monday, November 2, clear biodegradable balloons will be released,
carrying messages of hope and encouragement for the nearly 5,000 people in
Indiana living with lung cancer(1). The balloons, which represent clear
lungs, are being launched as part of Our Mission is Clear, an event organized
by Lilly and The Wellness Community Central-Indiana to bring awareness and
attention to the disease during November, National Lung Cancer Awareness
Month.

WHY: All adults are at risk for lung cancer, including nonsmokers. Since 1985,
lung cancer has
been the world's most common form of cancer, and an estimated 219,440
Americans are expected to be diagnosed this year(2). Nationally, it is
estimated that the disease will cause 159,000 deaths this year, which is more
than the total number of deaths resulting from breast, colon and prostate
cancers combined(3).

Survival is improved the earlier a patient is diagnosed with lung cancer. With
early detection, there is a 50 percent chance of surviving for five years.
However, only 16 percent of cases are diagnosed at an early stage.
Unfortunately, as the disease is often diagnosed at later stages,
approximately 59 percent of those with lung cancer will die within the first
year of diagnosis(4).

WHEN: Monday, November 2, 2009 from 12 - 1 p.m. Balloon lift off will be at
approximately 12:45.

WHERE: The Wellness Community-Central Indiana, 5150 W. 71st Street,
Indianapolis

WHO: A person with lung cancer and representatives from Lilly and The Wellness
Community are available for interview opportunities.
