Swiss stocks - Factors to watch on Oct 27

ZURICH Oct 27 (Reuters) - Swiss stocks are set to open higher on Tuesday, shrugging off a late sell off on Monday when Swiss and European bourses followed weak U.S. equities downwards.

The Swiss blue-chip index SMI.SSMI was indicated to open 14 points higher at 6,318 points, premarket data provided by bank Clariden Leu showed.CLPRE

The following are some of the main factors expected to affect Swiss stocks on Tuesday:

UBS UBS AG (UBSN.VX) (UBS.N)

* UBS said on Tuesday it had appointed Robert McCann as Chief Executive Officer of Wealth Management Americas where he will lead nearly 8,000 financial advisors across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada, managing 695 billion Swiss francs ($691.5 billion) in invested assets.

* The U.S. government asked for a reduced sentence on Monday for a former American client of UBS AG who pleaded guilty to tax evasion but provided information leading to the indictment of a Swiss banker and a Zurich lawyer.

* UBS hired a former Citigroup and Barclays Capital banker as managing director in its investment banking department in the Americas, as the Swiss company expects equity sales to increase in 2010.

SCHINDLER SCHP.S(SCHN.S)

Swiss lift and escalator maker Schindler cautioned on Tuesday the drop in orders received in the first nine months of 2009 due to lower construction activity would start to weigh on results in the fourth quarter and continue to have an impact in 2010.
