Asustek sees Q4 portable PC shipments up 10 pct

TAIPEI | Thu Oct 29, 2009 1:48am EDT

TAIPEI Oct 29 (Reuters) - Netbook PC pioneer Asustek (2357.TW) expects shipments of its portable PCs to climb about 10 percent in the current three months from the previous quarter, helped by strong buying ahead of the holiday season.

The firm said it expects to ship about 2.2-2.4 million units of its notebook PCs, about 1.7-1.9 million units of its netbook PCs, and about 5-5.5 million motherboard units.

It gave the forecast after the Taiwan stock exchange closed on Thursday. Asustek shares were down over 3 percent, lagging a 2 percent advance on the benchmark TAIEX share index .TWII.

Asustek announced on Monday it made a net profit of T$6.5 billion in the third quarter, beating market expectations and reaffirming a return in consumer confidence for tech buys. [ID:nTP273583]
