ARLINGTON, Va.--(Business Wire)--
"Smart" prosthetic limbs. Navigation systems that can plan and direct the way we
drive. iPhones and BlackBerries that serve as surrogate memories - or decision
makers. As we rely more and more on technological devices to take over functions
of our bodies and brains, questions arise about whether we are irrevocably set
on the path toward becoming "cyborgs," or human-machine hybrid beings.
Researchers say it`s not just science fiction; it`s on the verge of becoming
reality. But when could it happen? Should we let it happen? And where do we draw
moral and legal lines when a person becomes part machine?

As part of its ongoing series on cutting-edge neuroscientific research, the
Center for Neurotechnology Studies at the Potomac Institute of Policy Studies
presents a lecture by Dr. Paolo Benanti, Assistant Professor at the Pontificia
Universita Gregoriana of Rome, Italy. Dr. Benanti will address "The Cyborg: A
Core Concept for Answers and Questions of Neurotechnology." That will address
these issues, and how they relate to our concept of self, and the limits
confronting technology and its uses.
