Browne Jacobson Selects PGP Universal(TM) Gateway Email to Protect Sensitive
Client Communications
PGP(R) Solution used by leading law firm to provide seamless data protection
LONDON and MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- PGP Corporation, a
global leader in enterprise data protection, has announced that Browne
Jacobson, one of the largest law firms in the UK, has selected PGP
Universal(TM) Gateway Email to secure its electronic communications. Using
the PGP® solution, Browne Jacobson is able to encrypt sensitive information in
emails to clients, including University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) and the
Criminal Justice System Mail (CJSM), ensuring secure communication and helping
to ensure compliance with various regulations.
Established in 1832, Browne Jacobson is one of the largest legal practices in
the UK with offices in Birmingham, London and Nottingham. Having quadrupled
in size in the last ten years, the firm now has 251 lawyers and an impressive
client portfolio, including blue chip organisations, NHS trusts, local
authorities and public sector organisations.
The increasing number of data breaches in the UK - 70% of UK organisations
suffered at least one data breach in the last year* - alongside the changing
security requirements of one of its clients, UHL, which established a policy
requiring the secure transmission of information to third parties, prompted
Browne Jacobson to review its existing security strategy.
After conducting a full market evaluation, Browne Jacobson selected PGP
Corporation as the vendor of choice. As Peter Birley, director of IT at
Browne Jacobson, said, "Browne Jacobson places utmost importance in the
security of its clients' data. Whilst we have always invested heavily in our
IT infrastructure, we recognised that in the current market we needed even
greater security for our messaging systems. Given its experience in this
sector, the decision to work with PGP Corporation was a natural one."
In order to ensure the seamless integration of the PGP® technology, Browne
Jacobson worked closely with Intellect Security, a dedicated and specialist
provider of PGP® solutions in the United Kingdom and a PGP® partner for over a
decade. Intellect Security managed the entire process right from the planning
and design process to the actual implementation of the PGP Universal(TM)
Gateway Email solution. Furthermore, Intellect also worked closely with UHL's
PGP® reseller and CJSM's IT department to ensure compatibility with the two
systems. By implementing PGP Universal(TM) Gateway Email, Browne Jacobson has
facilitated secure email communications with clients using gateway-to-gateway
encryption. The additional use of PGP Universal(TM) Web Messenger, , enables
clientless email encryption for secure email communications with large groups
of customers and partners as well as experts and witnesses in specific cases.
By safeguarding data down to the individual recipient, PGP Universal(TM) Web
Messenger protects sensitive data from unauthorised access in transit, over
the public servers and at the endpoint.
The PGP® solution also supports Browne Jacobson's commitment to comply with
the voluntary ISO 27001 standard code of practice for information security
management.
"The PGP® solution exceeded all our email security requirements with the
benefits being felt throughout our organisation," continued Birley. "With the
potential to extend the solution across other applications, we really see our
work with PGP Corporation as an investment not just in our communications
strategy, but also in our overall IT security infrastructure."
"Data protection is a serious concern for all organisations, but one which is
often overlooked, it is therefore great to work with a company like Browne
Jacobson which is looking ahead to defend its clients' communications," said
Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO at PGP Corporation. "Browne
Jacobson's proactive approach is responsible, considered and a great example
to other companies evaluating their current enterprise data protection
strategies."
