Anglo and Overseas Plc (the "Company")

Transaction in own shares

The Company announces that on 28 October 2009 it purchased 35,000 of its own
Ordinary shares of 10p each at a price of £0.964286. The shares have been
placed into Treasury.

Following this repurchase the Company has 8,603,938 Ordinary shares held in
Treasury. The number of shares in issue is now 83,275,319. The number of shares
in issue, less those held in Treasury, is 74,671,381.
