NEW YORK--(Business Wire)--
Metro US, the leading free daily newspaper, has become the 5th largest
circulated newspaper in the country according to newly released circulation
statistics. With a US circulation of 590,553 daily copies according to the most
recent Certified Audit of Circulation report, Metro US newspaper (New York,
Philadelphia, and Boston) has effectively pulled ahead of the Washington Post to
reach this position.

The leading paid-for newspapers` circulations decreased an average of 13% in New
York, 9% in Philadelphia, and 18% in Boston, according to six-month daily
average figures released Monday by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The
national average daily circulation plunged 10.6% - one of the most severe drops
in overall circulation in the past ten years.

In addition to this increase in rank, according to the 2009 Scarborough Survey,
Metro keeps its leading position among a key demographic of young professionals.
Among all print publications Metro reaches the highest percentage of adults
18-49 years old. Metro attributes this leadership position to its ability to
adapt the product to suit market demands. Recent changes include a redesigned
print product, an expanded weekend edition, new creative advertising solution
including glossy and zoned cover wraps, an interactive text poll and editorial
sponsorships.

"Our free papers provide the Twittering, blogging, and Facebooking generation
with something new and different, quick news and bite-size information, which
means they can keep up to speed in a 20-minute commute," says Pelle Tornberg,
Founder and CEO of SeaBay Media.

While changing advertising patterns have left traditional newspapers scrambling
to adapt to competition from the Internet, Metro has understood the dynamics of
the market for free content from the start. In a time when paid newspapers are
declining circulation and losing readers, Metro keeps growing and giving people
what they want and deserve: quality news for free.
