US House passes bill to fund gov't through Dec 18

WASHINGTON Oct 29 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a stopgap measure to keep the government running through Dec. 18 as lawmakers continue to work on spending bills for the current fiscal year.

The temporary spending bill, which was approved by a vote of 247 to 178, prevents a government shutdown when current funding runs out at the end of October.

The Senate is expected to take up the measure later on Thursday before sending it to President Barack Obama to sign into law.
