Taiwan Quanta's Q3 net beats forecasts

TAIPEI Oct 30 (Reuters) - Quanta Computer (2382.TW), the world's No. 1 contract laptop PC maker, reported market-beating third-quarter earnings on Friday, underscoring a recovery in the sector and boding well for clients such as HP (HPQ.N).

The company said it made a net profit of T$6.113 billion ($190 million) in the third quarter, surpassing market expectations for a T$5.25 billion net profit, according to a poll of 19 analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Quanta made a net profit of T$7.2 billion during the same period a year ago.

Coupled with smaller rival Compal (2324.TW), the two firms together manufacture more than half of all the world's laptop PCs, supplying to top global brands such as HP (HPQ.N), Dell (DELL.O) and Lenovo (0992.HK). (Reporting by Roger Tung; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)
