UPDATE 1-Guidance Software Q3 loss narrower than expected

Nov 2 (Reuters) - Digital investigation software provider Guidance Software Inc (GUID.O) posted a narrower-than-expected quarterly loss, helped by new enterprise customers and deals signed, sending its shares up 9 percent in after-hours trade.
The company also forecast 2009 results above analysts' estimates. It expects per-share loss of 37 cents to 50 cents, excluding items, on revenue of $73 million to $76 million, for fiscal 2009.
Analysts are looking at a loss of 52 cents a share, on revenue of $73.0 million, for the year, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
"Our new products have been well received, and demand from customers for eDiscovery technology increased significantly," Chief Executive Victor Limongelli said.
The company saw sequential improvements in all lines of business, and benefits from cost cuts taken earlier in the year, the CEO said.
For the third quarter, the company's net loss fell to $2.2 million, or 9 cents per share, from $3.7 million, or 16 cents per share, a year ago.
Revenue fell 18 percent to $19 million.
Excluding items, the company reported a loss of 4 cents per share.
Analysts were expecting a loss of 12 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $18 million.
Shares of the company were up 9 percent at $5.74 in post-market trade. They closed at $5.25 Monday on Nasdaq.
