MILPITAS, CA, Nov 02 (MARKET WIRE) --
PROMISE Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of versatile RAID storage
solutions catering to customers from enterprise to consumer, announced
today its 6G SAS Storage Bay Bridge (SBB) 2.0 JBOD storage subsystem for
use in the entry-level market is available with limited distribution. This
industry-first introduction provides enterprise-class performance,
reliability and high-efficiency design at an affordable price; it marks
the next advancement in storage, whereby customers have more choice,
value and a wider range of technology features than available before.
"Today, CIOs and businesses of all sizes are looking to balance the issue
of technology cost versus technology performance," said Roger Cox,
Research Vice President, Gartner. "Bringing enterprise-level features to
the entry-level market is becoming very necessary as customers,
regardless of their size, look to improve efficiency and performance as
they take advantage of all the technology advancements available today."
The 6G SAS SBB JBOD storage subsystem delivers an affordable
high-performance solution with advanced enterprise level reliability and
functionality. The multilane external 6G SAS port provides up to 24G of
bandwidth for storage applications requiring massive expansion
capabilities.
"For years our storage solutions have resonated with customers who need to
have a broad range of features," said Chi Chen Wu, Senior Vice President
and CTO, PROMISE Technology. "With this offering we are introducing
additional capabilities that are helping customers improve efficiency and
performance. This product is another example of how PROMISE is redefining
the dynamics of data storage in keeping with customer requirements."
According to Jin-Lon Hon, Vice President of Engineering, PROMISE
Technology, "Since PROMISE's inception, we have worked hard to maintain a
position at the forefront of storage efficiency and effectiveness. This
offering, based on the SBB open standard, provides a simplified approach
and decreases costs for customers. It provides quicker access to new
storage technology, which is a win for everyone. The 6G SAS solution was
developed to provide massive expansion capabilities and can dramatically
reduce operating costs because of the reduced heat output and improved
cooling efficiency."
The 6G JBOD is backward compatible and interoperates with current VTJx10s
3G E-Class units. The solution is also forward upgrade compatible from the
SuperTrak to the PROMISE VTrak. The high performance architecture supports
flexible connectivity to both SAS and SATA hard drives delivering
enterprise-class availability, performance and reliability for Windows and
Linux environments. Depending on the chosen connection, the solution can
do up to four levels of JBOD cascading in each port for a total of up to
eight JBODs connection and 256 HDDs. Up to four 24-bay J-Class units can
be connected to a single SAS HBA for a total of 96 drives.
Affordable
Enterprise-level Storage
-- By utilizing the simplicity of the SBB, customers will soon be able to
change the identity of an array by changing the controller card. Identities
such as JBOD, RAID, iSCSI, Fibre Channel SAN and NAS will be able to fit,
connect and function within the SBB-compliant storage array.
Outstanding Performance
-- The cutting-edge 6G SAS architecture gives the solution immense
available bandwidth to support the flood of unstructured data now flowing
across networks today. Fully backward compatible with 3G drives, users have
the ability to deploy 3G, 6G, SAS and SATA drives for tiered storage
applications.
No Single Point of Failure
-- With a no single point of failure design, the 6G SAS solution offers
enterprise-class reliability at a revolutionary price. All system
components are redundant and are constantly monitored using industry
standard protocols for trouble-free operation and ease-of-use in
heterogeneous environments. Dual active-active JBOD I/O modules allow for
redundant data paths to ensure data availability.
GreenRAID
-- Products utilize environmentally friendly production methods and
materials as well as high-efficiency designs that save energy. The 80 Plus
Bronze Certified power supplies improve total cost of ownership by reducing
heat output and improving cooling efficiency. The internal 6G SAS expander-
based architecture also allows for transparent access to each drive,
enabling full utilization of the green features.
Service and Support
The offering is backed by the PROMISE 3-year limited warranty with 24/7
(Americas and EMEA) telephone and email support. PROMISE offers extended
warranty and onsite parts replacement options with service levels as low
as four hours.
Pricing and Availability
The PROMISE 6 G SAS SBB JBOD storage subsystem is available in limited
distribution and will be commercially available through distribution in
Q1, 2010.
MSRP for the 6G SAS JBOD subsystem starts at $3,789 for the 3U-16 bay SAS
single. The 4U-24 bay SAS single is priced at $4,829.
