Spain car sales up 26.4 percent in October
MADRID |
MADRID Nov 2 (Reuters) - Spanish car sales jumped 26.4 percent in October from a year earlier, as government subsidies for car buyers helped boost the flagging industry, data from car makers' association ANFAC showed on Monday.
The rise in sales compared to a rise of 18 percent in September.
Car sales fell 24.4 percent in the January to October period year on year to 775,378 units from 1.025 million units in the first ten months of 2008.
Sales rose to 98,202 units in October from 77,686 units in the same month a year earlier, ANFAC said.
In May, the government began offering 2,000 euro ($2,948) subsidies to new car buyers, in addition to a 700 million euro subsidy to replace old vehicles with energy efficient cars.
