Cadwalader Attorney Honored by Sanctuary for Families for Outstanding Pro Bono Work

Alicia Clifford, an associate in the Corporate Department of Cadwalader,
Wickersham & Taft LLP, one of the world`s leading law firms, was named as a
recipient of the Sanctuary for Families Award for Excellence in Pro Bono
Advocacy. The award, which was presented on November 2 at a gala in New York,
was established to honor attorneys who provide outstanding pro bono advocacy and
representation for clients of Sanctuary for Families` Center for Battered
Women`s Legal Services. 

Ms. Clifford was recognized for representing domestic violence victims in a wide
range of cases over the last six years, from custody and visitation to
gender-based asylum and immigration, and for dedicating hundreds of hours to
research, writing, advocacy, trial preparation, in-court representation, and
supervision of other pro bono staff.

Ms. Clifford concentrates her practice in private equity and complex corporate
transactions, including domestic and international mergers, acquisitions,
leveraged buyouts, going private transactions, and recapitalizations. In
addition, Ms. Clifford also advises public and private clients and their boards
of directors on corporate, securities, and governance issues. She has
represented private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in all aspects
of mergers and acquisitions, corporate counseling, and corporate governance. Ms.
Clifford received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and holds
degrees in Jurisprudence from Oxford University. She also has degrees in
economics and accounting and finance from the London School of Economics and
Monash University. 

Sanctuary for Families is one of the largest nonprofit agencies in the nation
dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence victims and their children,
including providing shelter, counseling, legal representation, and assistance in
making the transition to independent living. The Sanctuary Associates Committee
is a group of young professionals who support the work of Sanctuary and the
Legal Center.
