Czech c.bank chief gives up EU job candidacy
PRAGUE |
PRAGUE Nov 9 (Reuters) - Czech central bank chief Zdenek Tuma said on Monday he had given up candidacy to become the country's representative in the EU's European Commission after political parties failed to reach an agreement on his appointment.
Tuma, who has won respect for steering Czech monetary policy in the past decade, was proposed for the European Union job by non-partisan Prime Minister Jan Fischer.
But the interim cabinet rejected all candidates proposed on Monday, and is due to hold a new vote on Tuesday.
Tuma said he would remain at the helm of the central bank. (Reporting by Jan Lopatka)
