BARRIE, ON, Nov 09 (MARKET WIRE) --
The Warren County Public Schools (WCPS) received the 2009 Andromeda Star
of Energy Efficient Award presented by the Alliance to Save Energy. This
award is presented to organizations, learning institutions, state offices
and government programs for their efforts to promote energy efficiency.
By using NUDURA's ICF structures, WCPS was one of six winners honored
during the 17th annual "Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency"
award dinner on September 17 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in
Washington, D.C.
WCPS, located in Kentucky, was earned this tremendous award through their
use of concrete schools. These concrete schools, built with NUDURA
products, are constructed using ICF (insulated concrete forms) concrete
blocks. Insulated concrete forms help to keep the schools warm in the
winter and cool in the summer. By building schools from ICF concrete
blocks, along with other green advancements, WCPS has avoided costs of
more than $4 million and reduced consumption by more than 28 percent
during the last five years. In addition, WCPS currently has four
buildings with Energy Star certification. WCPS prides itself on educating
their students on the benefits of energy efficiency as well by including
the topic in the daily curriculum.
By using NUDURA's product, not only do WCPS's concrete schools become more
efficient, but the construction process is more efficient as well.
NUDURA's ICF structures are longer, wider and have reversible interlock.
This allows the building to be built in a faster, more efficient manner,
thereby saving resources. In addition, NUDURA ICF products are designed to
be shipped folded, so WCPS pays less in shipping costs and the green
factor is increased by limiting the amount of fuel needed for
transportation. To help the green movement even further, all of the webs
in NUDURA's forms are made from recycled materials. This allows much of
the waste coming off the job site to be recycled. Not stopping there,
NUDURA uses foam with no CFC or HCFC emissions and concrete rather than
wood. Combine those features with NUDURA's tight construction, which
allows mechanical equipment to perform better, and the result is a
healthier environment for students, faculty and visitors.
