First National Health Plan to Earn "Accreditation with Performance Reporting"
BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(Business Wire)--
CIGNA (NYSE:CI) has become one of the first companies - and the first national
health plan - to earn the new National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)
quality rating for its health and wellness programs, continuing the company`s
longstanding commitment to health improvement using industry-leading programs
and techniques as validated by external accrediting organizations.

The Wellness & Health Promotion Accreditation - "Accredited With Performance
Reporting" - is effective for three years. It applies to a wide range of CIGNA's
health and wellness programs, including: Health Advisor; Personal Health Team
and Integrated Personal Health Team (health coaching); lifestyle management
programs (tobacco cessation, stress and weight management); health assessment;
online health coaching programs; and employer health promotion and wellness
consultation services.

To earn the accreditation, CIGNA had to submit its health and wellness programs
to a comprehensive evaluation, including how wellness programs are implemented
in the workplace, how services such as health coaching are provided to help
eligible individuals develop skills to make healthy choices, and how sensitive
health information of eligible individuals is properly safeguarded.

"NCQA`s Wellness & Health Promotion Accreditation requires organizations to
demonstrate their compliance with well defined standards and quality measures,"
said Margaret E. O`Kane, NCQA president. "The NCQA seal will provide employers
and consumers with the information they need to choose the best program in their
markets."

"We`re gratified to earn this recognition from NCQA," said Dr. Scott Josephs,
CIGNA's national medical officer for clinical operations. "This NCQA `seal of
approval` certifies that CIGNA`s health and wellness programs meet exacting
standards and have undergone a nationally recognized evaluation. Employers and
individuals alike can select CIGNA health and wellness programs with
confidence."

CIGNA was one of the first "early adopters" to participate in NCQA`s
accreditation for wellness and health promotion when the organization announced
the program last year.
