World leading white goods manufacturer is first-to-market with ETLEU;
third-party certification that validates CE Marking and provides Truth behind
product safety claims.
CHICAGO--(Business Wire)--
Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to a wide range of
industries worldwide, recently issued its first ETLEU product safety
certification to Haier, one of the world`s leading white goods manufacturers,
for its new Split Type Room Air Conditioner. Soon after ETLEU had its market
introduction, Gregg Tiemann, Chief Executive of Intertek`s Commercial and
Electrical Products division, presented the first ETLEU certification in a
ceremony held at Haier`s Chinese headquarters in the Qingdao Shandong Province.

First unveiled on October 20, 2009, ETLEU is a voluntary pan-European Union
product safety certification mark developed for manufacturers who want to
demonstrate that their products have undergone the rigors of independent product
safety testing and comply with relevant European product safety standards. The
ETLEU Mark does not replace the existing CE Marking system of manufacturer self
declaration of safety. This mark provides manufacturers, authorities, retailers
and consumers with evidence of third-party testing and truth behind product
safety claims for products sold throughout Europe.

"Haier and Intertek are similar in our pursuits of being first to market to
drive our respective industries," said Tiemann. "From constructing the first
Chinese production plant in the United States to being ranked China`s number one
global brand by the Financial Times. It`s an honor to have Haier as the first
customer for Intertek`s ETLEU mark, and another show of its commitment to be a
market innovator and leader."

Haier is the world's fourth largest manufacturer of white goods. Beginning in
2002, Haier put its trust in Intertek`s ETL Mark for North American product
safety. In addition to product safety certification, Haier has worked with
Intertek on product refinement and zero-defect initiatives, testing for
refrigeration capacity, acoustics, and, among others, energy efficiency.

Bundling the ETLEU Mark with Intertek`s ETL Mark, the fastest growing product
safety certification mark for North America, or with the strong portfolio of
local marks - ASTA and BEAB (UK), S (Scandinavia) and GS (Germany) - gives
manufacturers who sell products across North America and Europe easy and
cost-effective access to an unprecedented family of certifications.
