DUBLIN--(Business Wire)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/6a269b/united_kingdom_agr) has announced the addition of the "United Kingdom Agribusiness Report Q1 2009" report to their offering. The United Kingdom Agribusiness service provides proprietary medium term price forecasts for key commodities, including corn, wheat, rice, sugar, cocoa, coffee, soy and milk; in addition to newly-researched competitive intelligence on leading agribusiness producers, traders and suppliers; in-depth analysis of latest industry developments; and essential industry context on United Kingdom's agribusiness service. This report analyses supply and demand in the UK's grain, rice, sugar, cocoa, livestock and dairy markets. It looks at how production and consumption levels have developed in recent years and how they are likely to play out until 2012. The report considers the major trends and issues currently affecting the UK's agrifood industry. The UK is one of the EU's main agricultural economies. Agricultural activities cover about three quarters of the land area and produce about two thirds of UK food. Main crops include wheat (third biggest producer in the EU), barley (fourth biggest producer in the EU), rapeseed, carrots and onions. In terms of livestock production the UK is the second biggest poultry meat producer in the EU, while the UK and Spain produce about half of EU sheep meat. The UK accounted for 10.3%, one third, of cows milk collected in the EU in 2007. Climate change concerns and environmental issues are becoming increasingly important, at EU and national government level, and will affect the way farmers and food producers organise their businesses. The CAP Health Check will divert long standing subsidies which have benefitted medium-sized and large farms into countryside preservation schemes. Changes made in 2005 are already obliging farmers to operate in a more environmentally responsible way. The UK government is embarking on a campaign to provide consumers with easy access to healthy, safe and environmentally low impact food, which will ultimately necessitate measures to limit farm produced green house gases.
