BROOKFIELD, WI, Nov 12 (MARKET WIRE) --
The Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc. (CPI), in partnership with the
Vermont Department of Education, has been invited to present an
informational session detailing Vermont's statewide implementation of
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies at the 7th International
Conference on Positive Behavior Support, Expanding the World of PBS:
Science, Values and Vision. The conference is hosted by the Association
for Positive Behavior Support and is scheduled for March 25-27, 2010 in
St. Louis, MO.

The Vermont Department of Education established the BEST Project (Building
Effective Supports for Teaching) in the early 1990s to help address the
needs of students with challenging behaviors. Over the years, the BEST
Project has provided Vermont educators with numerous learning
opportunities to fill their professional toolboxes with effective
practice and strategies to help students achieve better academic
outcomes. As one of its first statewide efforts, the BEST Project
collaborated with CPI to develop a cadre of Nonviolent Crisis
Intervention(R) program trainers available to Vermont schools.

"CPI was chosen because of its philosophy of providing the best Care,
Welfare, Safety, and Security(SM) to staff members and those in their
care," said BEST Project Coordinator Richard Boltax. "The emphasis is on
prevention, de-escalation, and the use of physical intervention only as a
last resort when a student presents a danger to self or others."

As a result of this partnership with CPI, thousands of Vermont educators
were trained and Vermont has maintained one of the lowest rates of
physical intervention in the country.

"In 2007, the BEST Project adopted School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports
(SW-PBS) as its framework for creating a whole school positive climate,"
said Boltax. "In Vermont, we've come to believe that the ideas and skills
presented in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention(R) training are essential to
implementing each of the three tiers of the SW-PBS framework."

The informational session will share the successes and challenges of
integrating the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention(R) training program into
all three of the SW-PBS framework: primary, secondary, and tertiary.

The Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc. is the world's leading training
organization specializing in the safe management of disruptive and
assaultive behavior. CPI's Nonviolent Crisis Intervention(R) training
program stresses prevention and safer responses for managing anxious,
hostile, or violent behavior. Since 1980, more than 5.4 million
professionals have participated in CPI training, and thousands of
organizations worldwide have successfully implemented CPI's unique
behavior management techniques.
