United`s Pet-Adoption Events Also Help Rescued Animals Find Homes
LUBBOCK, Texas--(Business Wire)--
The holiday season is a great time for rescued animals to unite with loving pet
owners, and United Supermarkets has joined the cause. Thanks to the generosity
of Hartz Mountain Corp., United will donate more than 17,000 Hartz-brand pet
products valued at more than $100,000 to five animal shelters in United`s trade
area.

With United`s "Give a Home for the Holidays" event, United will deliver Hartz
pet products - including dog bones, cat toys, shampoo, training pads and pet
dishes - to selected animal shelters in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Wichita
Falls and the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

With this donation, non-profit animal organizations and shelters such as the
SPCA of Texas can provide shelter pets with new toys. The donation also helps
animal clinics stock needed supplies and community programs like Compassion
Connection that participate in animal-assisted therapy sessions for patients at
hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.

"The SPCA of Texas is grateful for the generosity of this fantastic donation of
Hartz pet products from United Supermarkets and Market Street," said James Bias,
SPCA of Texas president. "Every animal deserves to receive exceptional care and
a loving home, and these products will help make the holiday season and beyond
especially happy and bright for the animals we serve. The SPCA of Texas would
also like to remind the public that adopting a shelter pet is the best way to
add a four-legged family member, and that making the entire family a part of the
process will ensure a successful love match."

In addition to the donation, several United Supermarkets and Market Street
locations will host "Give a Home for the Holidays" pet-adoption events in the
aforementioned Texas markets over the next two Saturdays. For the first time at
United, guests can stop by participating locations in each region and adopt
animals ready for a new home.

United`s "Give a Home for the Holidays" pet-adoption events allow nearby
shelters the opportunity to give vaccinated dogs and cats a new home. For guests
adopting pets during the event, United will provide each of them a $50 gift card
to use in purchasing pet supplies that can be found inside the store. Guests may
choose from a wide selection of Hartz-brand products, food, treats and other pet
supplies that will provide a jumpstart to pet ownership.

"With the holidays approaching, Hartz provided us with the perfect opportunity
to reach out to local animal shelters, donate thousands of pet products and
serve as an outlet for matching loving animals to loving homes," said Shannon
Swatzell, community relations manager for United Supermarkets, LLC. "Pets bring
a lot of joy and excitement to their owners. If you`re unable to stop by one of
our locations to adopt, please visit a local animal shelter and make a donation
or bring home a new best friend for the holidays."

"Give a Home for the Holidays" events will take place at the following United
Supermarkets and Market Street locations:

* Sat., Nov. 14 - Market Street McKinney, 6100 W. Eldorado Parkway, 11 a.m. to 4
