Sonae plans superstores in Angola - report

LISBON Nov 12 (Reuters) - Portugal's retail-heavy conglomerate Sonae (YSO.LS) plans to expand to Angola and open its Continente hypermarkets in the southwest African country, Diario Economico newspaper said on Thursday.

The business newspaper cited unnamed sources involved in the process as saying Portugal's largest retailer and employer was putting the finishing touches on the Angola expansion plan and about to define the size of investment there.

A company spokeswoman said Sonae had "no deals signed in Angola and none ready to be signed", but would otherwise not confirm or deny the report.

The newspaper said Sonae may team up with one of the companies run by Isabel dos Santos -- the daughter of Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos. Despite the global economic downturn, Angola's economy continues to grow.

Sonae shares were 0.4 percent higher at 0.943 euros in early trading, outperforming the broader market in Lisbon. (Reporting by Andrei Khalip; Editing by Hans Peters)
