AEP plans to shut Texas Welsh 2 coal unit for work

NEW YORK Nov 16 (Reuters) - American Electric Power Co Inc (AEP.N) planned to shut the 528-megawatt Unit 2 at the Welsh coal-fired power station in Texas on Nov. 15-22 for planned maintenance on auxiliary equipment.

In another report, the company said it would work on the unit from Nov. 15-27.

The company did not say when the unit would return to service.

The 1,584-MW Welsh plant is located in Cason in Titus County about 130 miles east of Dallas. The station has three 528-MW units, which entered service in 1977, 1980 and 1982.

One MW powers about 500 homes in Texas.

AEP's Southwest Electric Power Co subsidiary owns and operates the station.

AEP, of Columbus, Ohio, owns and operates more than 38,000 MW of generating capacity, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by John Picinich)
