ECB's Trichet: strong dollar in interests of whole world

FRANKFURT | Tue Nov 17, 2009 12:47pm EST

FRANKFURT Nov 17 (Reuters) - A strong dollar is in the interests of the entire international community, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said on Tuesday.

Speaking at an awards ceremony, he said he fully backed comments by U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Monday, where he said the Fed was attentive to changes in the value of the dollar.

"We are fully aligned in this analysis," Trichet said at a Euro Finance Week function.

"I believe that the strength of the dollar within the set of floating currencies is in the interest not only of the United States, but of the entire international community." (Reporting by Krista Hughes)
