UPDATE 1-InterDigital sees Q4 revenue below market expectations

* Sees Q4 rev about $75 mln to $76 mln vs est $77.5 mln

* Say forecast reflects weakness in Japan-based licensees

Nov 17 (Reuters) - Wireless technology firm InterDigital Inc (IDCC.O) forecast fourth-quarter revenue that fell short of market expectations, citing some weakness in royalties from its Japan-based licensees.

However, the comphany said it saw solid sales from its smartphone licensees and growth in its technology solutions business.

It expects revenue of about $75 million to $76 million for the fourth quarter.

Analysts on average were expecting revenue of $77.5 million for the period, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

InterDigital derived over 95 percent of total revenue from patent licensing royalties in the third quarter.

Shares of the company were down 54 cents at $23.22 in Tuesday afternoon trade on Nasdaq.
