US gold ends tad higher despite dollar rebound

 NEW YORK, Nov 17 (Reuters) - U.S. gold futures ended a tad
higher on Tuesday, recovering from losses earlier in the
session, as worries about long-term inflation more than offset
a stronger dollar.

 GOLD
 * COMEX December gold GCZ9 settles up 20 cents at
$1,139.40 an ounce on the NYMEX.
 * Range spanned from $1,127.80 to $1,142. December scaled a
record high $1,144.20 an ounce on Monday.
 * Combination of options-related buying, short-covering and
inflation worries boost gold - Bruce Dunn at Auramet.
 * Tremendous open interest of $1,200 call options could
pull market higher - Dunn.
 * Gold initially pressured by risk averse sentiment, which
also sends the dollar to session highs against the euro.

 * Gold could hit $1,200 an ounce by year-end, and gold in
euro, sterling and yen terms looked better than in dollar terms

 SILVER
 * December silver SIZ9 finishes down 1.3 cents at $18.387
an ounce on profit-taking, after a sharp rally of more than $1
on Monday.
 * Ranged from $18.085 to $18.435.
 * COMEX estimated final volume at 64,485 lots.
 * Spot silver XAG= was at $18.40 against $18.36 in the
previous session in New York.
 * London silver fix XAGFIX= at $18.10.
 PLATINUM
 * January platinum PLF0 ends up $17.90, or 1.2 percent,
at $1,462.50 an ounce as improving economic sentiment boosts
demand.
 * Spot platinum XPT= $1,452.50 an ounce.
 PALLADIUM
 * December palladium PAZ9 closes down $4, or 1.1 percent,
at $372 an ounce.
 * Spot palladium XPD= $369 an ounce.
