Global LCD TV shipments up 38 pct in Q3 to record
TOKYO |
TOKYO Nov 19 (Reuters) - Global LCD TV shipments jumped 38 percent to a record 37.5 million units in July-September, driven by government stimulus in China and Japan, as well as continued price erosion, research firm DisplaySearch said.
It expects LCD TV shipments to reach 140 million units in 2009, up from its previous estimate of 130 million.
In revenue terms, however, the LCD TV market grew by a scant 1 percent from a year earlier in the latest quarter due to prices tumbling, DisplaySearch said in a report dated Wednesday.
Samsung Electronics Co (005930.KS) kept its position as the world's No.1 LCD TV maker, accounting for 22.5 percent of global LCD TV revenues, followed by Sony Corp (6758.T) with 12.1 percent and LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS) with 11 percent, it said. (Reporting by Kiyoshi Takenaka)
