Taiwan stocks end flat, but chip designers gain
(Updates closing index)
TAIPEI, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Taiwan stocks were almost flat on Thursday as investors shunned financial shares, but switched their focus to small-cap chip designers that are riding on growing demand for consumer electronics products.
Taiwan's main TAIEX share index .TWII closed down 0.09 percent at 7,759.98. Chip designer Realtek (2379.TW), the market's second most active stock by turnover, shot up 6.8 percent and rival Sonix Technology (5471.TW) surged 7 percent to its daily limit.
Financials .TFNI fell 0.3 percent after recent gains which were inspired by hopes of signing of a financial services pact between Taiwan and China. (US$1=T$32.2) (Reporting by Baker Li; Editing by Jacqueline Wong)
