Century Housing Welcomes New Board Member Yvonne B. Burke

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Board Chair Daniel Lopez is proud to announce the appointment of a new member to Century Housing's Board of Directors, Yvonne B. Burke. Ms. Burke has been active in public affairs all of her adult life. Most recently, Ms. Burke served 16 years as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, including four years as Chair. Ms. Burke is currently working as a Mediator and Arbitrator with the Alternative Resolution Centers and American Arbitration Association. Ms. Burke also serves as a Member of the Board of the Office of Congressional Ethics, appointed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2008. This Office performs independent investigations of allegations regarding behavior of Congressional personnel. Ms. Burke's life is full of "firsts," including being the first African-American woman elected to the California Assembly, the first African-American woman to be elected to Congress from California, the first female chair of the Black Congressional Caucus, the first black person to sit on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and other firsts. In addition to her service as an elected representative, Ms. Burke has also volunteered for many nonprofit and community organizations, including service on the University of California Board of Regents, and the United States Olympics Organizing Committee. Ms. Burke received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her law degree from the University of Southern California. Ms. Burke has worked tirelessly, often outside the view of the media and without controversy, to promote her values and improve the lives of her constituents.
