Australia's Mitre 10 says expects rival offers

SYDNEY Nov 27 (Reuters) - Independent hardware chain Mitre 10 said on Friday it was expecting to receive a number of formal proposals on possible partnerships by the end of the day.

It said it would comment after reviewing the offers, including a takeover bid by grocery wholesaler Metcash Ltd (MTS.AX). The Metcash offer followed several months of talks with Metcash and with other parties, Mitre 10 added.

"These talks were part of an extensive process, initiated by the Mitre 10 board as part of its transformation program," Chief Executive Mark Burrowes said in an emailed statement.
