India's Reliance Communications cuts SMS charges
NEW DELHI |
NEW DELHI Nov 27 (Reuters) - Reliance Communications (RLCM.BO), India's No. 2 mobile operator, on Friday slashed SMS charges, further heating up an ongoing price war in the Indian mobile market.
Reliance said it would charge customers just 1 paisa per SMS in a new bill plan. One paisa is 1/100th of a rupee. A rupee is about 2 U.S. cents.
The company also launched another plan where customers can send unlimited text messages by paying 1 rupee a day.
Currently operators charge between 0.5 and 1 rupee for local and national SMSes.
