Student Transfer Navigator at CFNC.org Adds Transfer Courses for Private
Institutions

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- North Carolina students can
now proactively plan for college transfer by using the CFNC Student Transfer
Navigator to create a course equivalence report for courses taken at one of
North Carolina's 58 Community Colleges to 41 of North Carolina's four year
higher education institutions (16 public and 25 private).

The initial release of the Student Transfer Navigator in April 2009 provided
equivalency information for more than 600 courses from any of the State's 58
Community Colleges to any of the 16 four-year University of North Carolina
Institutions. With the addition of transfer course information for North
Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU), students can now
access more than one million transfer course relationships by creating an
academic history, verifying the information, and selecting up to two colleges
to view their equivalence report.

Students planning to transfer can start the application process for North
Carolina colleges and universities using the CFNC online admission system.

As with all CFNC services, information in the transfer tool is available to
parents, students, advisors, and counselors at no cost. To use this tool,
click on the "Transfer Student Planner" link at CFNC.org.

"This is exciting news, especially for community college students who are
ready to continue their work toward a baccalaureate degree. Independent
colleges and universities enroll more than 2,000 community college transfer
students each year, and we believe those numbers will continue to increase
with the launch of Transfer Navigator," says Dr. A. Hope Williams, president
of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities.

"Transfer Navigator provides our college transfer counselors with immediate
access to a massive database of course information resulting in an improved
advising process for students," says Dr. R. Scott Ralls, N.C. Community
College System president. "In a time when more students are opting to begin
their post secondary education at a North Carolina Community College, Transfer
Navigator provides students with the ability to maximize their higher
education experience. Transfer Navigator will open a student's eyes to the
educational possibilities before them and will help them build a foundation
for success."

Erskine Bowles, president of the UNC System said, "The University of North
Carolina continues to focus on the development of programs and systems that
enable seamless transfer among N.C. community colleges, independent colleges
and universities, and UNC constituent institutions. Transfer Navigator
provides students with a user-friendly electronic tool to aid transfer to
upper division programs. This work supports our goal of increasing community
college transfers and producing more baccalaureate graduates in NC."

The CFNC Student Transfer Navigator is being developed as part of a 2 year,
$3.8M College Access Challenge Grant sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Education Grant Program and administered by the University of North Carolina
General Administration (PR Award Number - P378A080017). This system is the
result of a collaborative partnership effort between the University of North
Carolina, N.C. Independent Colleges and Universities, the N.C. Community
College System, the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, the N.C. State
Education Assistance Authority, College Foundation, Inc., and Decision
Academic, Inc.
