AmTrust Bank parent files for bankruptcy-court

Dec 2 (Reuters) - AmTrust Financial Corp (AFNL.PK), parent of the AmTrust Bank, filed for Chapter 11 protection on Monday, saying it was hit by the downturn in the U.S. housing and construction markets, according to court papers.

However, Cleveland-based AmTrust Bank was not included in the filing and will continue business operations.

The company listed total assets and debt both in the range of $100 million and $500 million in the court papers.

AmTrust Bank was founded in 1889 and was originally known as Ohio Savings, according to its website.
