(Reuters) - Guinea's junta leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara was wounded in an attack by rebel soldiers on Thursday, according to state television.

Here is a timeline about Guinea in the last 10 years:

December 1998 - Lansana Conte is re-elected in a vote held after the arrest of his main challenger, Alpha Conde, for sedition.

December 2003 - Conte is re-elected.

January 2005 - Dissident soldiers try to assassinate Conte as he drives through the capital Conakry.

February 2007 - Conte appoints Lansana Kouyate as prime minister after a general strike and protests which kills over 180.

May 2007 - Army protests leave at least 10 civilians dead. Conte sacks some senior commanders.

May 2008 - Several people are killed in an army pay revolt following the dismissal of Kouyate.

December 23 - Government announces Conte's death.

December 24 - Junta chief Captain Moussa Dadis Camara is chosen as de facto head of state after bloodless coup and says he will not stand for president in elections promised in 2010.

Sept 28 - Guinean security forces kill more than 150 people after firing live rounds to disperse thousands of protesters who wanted to hold a rally in a sports stadium, a rights body says.

-- France condemns what it said was the Guinean army's "violent repression of a peaceful demonstration."

September 29 - The AU threatens Guinea with sanctions and calls on Camara to confirm he will honor his pledge not to stand in a presidential election.

October 4 - Camara says he was blameless in the killings of protesters, saying he was in his office when it happened.

October 6 - U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton says Guinea's junta should step down.

October 12 - A two-day general strike called by unions to protest the Sept killings begins, bringing Conakry to a halt and disrupting bauxite exports.

October 14 - The EU's aid chief says Camara should stand trial for crimes against humanity.

October 15 - Guinea's mines minister confirms reports that the country is in talks with Chinese investors on a $7 billion deal to create a mining joint venture.

October 16 - The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court says he is investigating the September 28 crackdown.

-- The United Nations says it will set up an inquiry in the September 28 crackdown.

October 27 - Human Rights Watch releases a report accusing the military junta of planning the September killings.

October 29 - The United States restricts the travel of junta members and the African Union imposes sanctions that include travel restrictions and the freezing of bank accounts.

October 30 - France halts cooperation with Guinean institutions and suspends funding of a highway project.

November 18 - South Africa says it is investigating reports that South African mercenaries are training a force loyal to Camara.

December 2 - Guinea's unions threaten the military junta with another general strike.

December 4 - Camara wounded in attack by his own soldiers, according to state television.
