NEW YORK Dec 9 (Reuters) - Short interest on the New York Stock Exchange edged up in the second half of November, the exchange said on Wednesday.

As of Nov. 30, short interest rose 0.22 percent to about 13.20 billion shares from 13.17 billion shares for the period to Nov. 13.

Short interest on the NYSE amounted to 3.45 percent of total shares outstanding at the end of the period.

Investors who sell securities short seek to profit from bets the stocks will fall. Short-sellers borrow the shares and then sell them with the hope of buying back the share at a lower price, pocketing the difference. (Editing by Dan Grebler)
