Japan PM: to replace gasoline surcharge with new tax

TOKYO Dec 21 (Reuters) - Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said on Monday he would replace a surcharge on gasoline with another tax to ensure the government obtains enough tax revenue to support the economy with its policies.

Hatoyama, speaking to reporters, also said it was important to respond to concerns about falling tax revenues. (Reporting by Stanley White)
