Japan minister says May is deadline for U.S. base
TOKYO |
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese Defence Minister Toshimi Kitazwa said on Tuesday that May was the deadline for resolving a row over the relocation of a U.S. military base on the southern island of Okinawa which risks fraying ties with Washington.
His comments came hours after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton summoned Japan's ambassador to an unscheduled meeting in Washington, at which media said she urged Tokyo to implement an existing plan reached after years of negotiation.
"We have set May as the cut-off point, but that does not mean we'll be satisfied with doing it by then," a defense ministry spokeswoman quoted Kitazawa as telling reporters in Tokyo. "It means we should do it as soon as possible."
He added that he believed all three ruling coalition parties had the same schedule in mind.
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama said last week he wanted to spend several more months discussing how best to resolve a dispute over the position of the Futenma air base, but one of his party's tiny coalition partners was reluctant to fix a deadline.
Being seen to mishandle relations with key security ally Washington could damage Hatoyama's voter support ahead of a key upper house election in mid-2010. About 68 percent of respondents to a poll published in the Mainichi newspaper on Monday said they were concerned about ties with the United States under Hatoyama.
The United States wants to push ahead with a plan to shift the Futenma base to a less crowded part of the island, but many local residents say it should be moved off the island entirely, a view Hatoyama backed during his election campaign.
Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki told reporters after his unusual meeting with Clinton that she had emphasized the importance of U.S.-Japan relations, but Japanese media said she had pressed for implementation of the current plan.

All the equipment and supplies needed to make the transformation back to a manufacturing economy with lots of good paying jobs for the uneducated, do not exist in the US anymore.
A manufacturing economy like China, they are only too happy to finance our purchases from them.
If we pulled out of NAFTA and the WTO, they are not going to sell what we need back to us so we could convert back to a manufacturing economy.
Since other manufacturing economies provide all the credit that we buy things on, they definitely are not going to finance the purchase of the things we’d need to go back into competition with them.
If we quit buying from them, then all that debt of ours they currently hold, becomes worthless to them. If it becomes worthless to them, around the world it becomes worthless to anyone for anything.
We wouldn’t be able to buy anything even with a stacks of dollars that reached the moon.
In the US, the unemployment for those with college educations was only 5.1% last month even in this economic crisis.
Another problem, even now, in this current recession, the unemployment problem is only one for those without college educations.
The republicans made sure the educated centers of financial and banking power were bailed out, got to keep their jobs, and that their college educated employees have been hit the least.
Who do you think controls the US? It isn’t Billy bob the manufacturing redneck, its Bif and Buffy Yuppie, and their personal sentiments are this.
They don’t want a manufacturing job, they don’t want to do anything that might get them physically dirty. For the most part, in present day America, they have never seen anything manufactured.
Their stated personal preference is this, their children deserve clean air, and environments to play and grow in. The way they sell it, All children deserve a clean place to play, etc.
What they are really saying is this. Our educated and wealthy children need clean places to play, a clean environment, and clean air, and they don’t really care about anyone else.
They have never lived in this supposed manufacturing mecca you talk about.
Bif and Buffy control the US, and they are perfectly happy pulling down 100k a piece in white collar college educated jobs.
They don’t want dirty air, they don’t want to work in a sweatshop, they don’t care about those that are not smart enough to get themselves college educated, their children will be the lucky ones, their children will have clean places to play, clean air, and a clean environment.
The remaining wealth and power in this country is perfectly happy to have all that environmentally dirty and low paying jobs done overseas.
They are the ones that sold us out, and they control the power and wealth, as well as the political parties.
Yet, yesterday, I go into Home Depot, with a fluorescent light bulb, and the guy working there, part time, shit wages, crap benefits, tells me “Oh don’t you know that has mercury in it, here, let me have that and I’ll safely dispose of it for you.”‘
America has been brainwashed by the college educated and eco-Nazis.
There is no way to save America, it is now a third world country, the debt continues to climb, and the educated republicans and democrats care way to much about the environment to let any manufacturing go on here.
They not only don’t care about paying a living wage to uneducated people, they are only too happy to sell the jobs overseas.
And about morals and ethics, they don’t exist in the modern America.
We bankrupt the entire world’s financial system with our scams, and the entire world was only too happy to forgive us since we then elected President Obama.
You can’t solve anything, unless you can offer Bif and Buffy a job making 125,000 in a clean manufacturing environment, where all the environmental assumptions of their generation are covered, and then your manufacturing cost will be so high, that the standard of living is going to be worse than it is now, simply because to meet Bif and Buffy’s expectations, your products are going to cost 15 times what anything costs that they can buy at Walmart.
Bif and Buffy are not dumb, they are college educated, they understand the real costs of manufacturing in America, and they will make sure there is a Wal-Mart, and they will make sure no one cares about US manufactured goods, because they don’t.
Their reality is, I can buy it for a buck at Wal-Mart, I don’t care that it was made in a prison dorm environment in China by exploited workers making a dollar a day, they don’t care that China is now the most polluted country in the world, they only care that they can buy it for a buck, and that their kids don’t live in a polluted environment.
The true reasons behind the fall of America is simply this.
Educated people make a lot of money, they control the political parties, they are happy to commit white collar crimes against the rest of the society, and they will continue to do so.
Bif and Buffy understand the trade they are making, morality and ethics for 100k a year. They are happy to make the trade, they are happy to sell out the rest of the society, and it simply doesn’t matter to them.
There is no honest job to Bif and Buffy, to them, all jobs require you to scam, and if it means choosing being an unethical and immoral person over supplying themselves and their kids a nice house, nice cars, soccer, and expensive educations for their children, they gladly make the immoral and unethical choices.
American companies are not dumb, they pay for performance. They pay bonuses and commissions for making immoral and unethical decisions, and they gladly make and create the scams that bankrupt the world this time, but they don’t care, and they will continue, and there are 100 other major scams going on in America that in another three to five years, will also surface. To Bif and Buffy, it is simply a reality they’ve gotten accustomed to, every few years, there will be an adjustment from another scam that blows up, but to them it doesn’t matter.
Why do you think they had such a hard time selling health care? It is because Bif and Buffy, and the politicians in power, already have health insurance that works, and the don’t care about those that don’t. It’s not their problem, they are taken care of.
To the educated democrats and republicans, the choice is simply, I can be a team player and do my job and get paid lots to do it, and it will provide me and my kids with all the luxuries we want, so that is what I do. It is part of the cost I have to pay being an educated person in the US working at a good paying job, and it is now considered part of the job for all educated Americans, you must be immoral and unethical in how you do business, it is what the companies pay for, and it is what supports my kids.
The educated pay the price, because for them, it is a clean choice, they get to go on with their environmentally social agenda, they get to go on living the high life, and the rest of the world with globalization, will continue to pay the price for them.
They are so removed from reality, that they created their own artificial reality, and it won’t go away whether we stay in, or get out of NAFTA, or the WTO.
Bottom line, your previous post, ignores the reality of modern America, it is no longer the land of the free and the home of the brave, it is the land of Bif and Buffy and their artificial reality.
The corruption of American culture, and the decline of America has been a long time coming, it is now almost complete. Within a generation, with its current real world deficit of about 60 trillion, not obvious because of off the book financing by the congress and senate, the reality will be America, what a disgusting country, I don’t know why anyone would want to live there, it sucks.
Right now, America is 25% college educated. They control the country, and the seventy five percent that aren’t, have been sold down the river into slavery and poverty, and it will only get worse, as the treasury continues to print money with nothing backing it.
Soon, America will go through a period of intense inflation, the middle class will be wiped out, and the country will be worse than a third world country in many respects.
