Thai stocks set to start 2010 with energy-led gains
BANGKOK, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Thai stocks are expected to open higher on Monday, with oil and coal firms supported by rising world fuel prices, while a positive outlook should help push up the petrochemical sector .SETPT, analysts said.
However, uncertainties over the suspension of some activities at the country's biggest industrial estate over health and environmental concerns would continue to weigh on sentiment, they said.
"Buying of energy firms should nudge the market up today, despite lingering concerns about Map Ta Phut. There will be bargains to be had if the index edges down to the level of 733 and 725," said Sukit Udomsirikul, head of research at Siam City Securities, seeing those levels as support points.
Resistance on the main index .SETI was put at 740.
The benchmark SET index ended 2009 with a 1.0 percent fall to 734.54 last Wednesday. Bangkok was Southeast Asia's third-best performer and Asia's seventh-best performer in 2009.
