Silicon Valley shaken by light earthquake
SAN FRANCISCO |
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Silicon Valley technology companies and residents were shaken by a light 4.1 magnitude earthquake on Thursday, and there were no immediate reports of damage.
Silicon Valley is home to a number of large technology companies including Google, Cisco and Oracle.
Jay Alan, a spokesman for the California Office of the Emergency Services, said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
A spokesman from technology company Intel Corp, based in Santa Clara, said he felt the quake, while an employee of eBay, based in San Jose, did not feel it.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake, which struck at 10:09 a.m. local time (1809 GMT), was shallow at a depth of 5.6 miles.
Mani Pande, a resident of Mountain View, said she heard a loud noise but did not see any damage.
"I thought a truck had hit the house," she said.
