UBS to post Q4 profit - newspaper
* Bank still suffering client withdrawals - NZZ am Sonntag
* UBS spokesman declined to comment
ZURICH, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Swiss bank UBS UBS.VX will post a fourth-quarter profit, the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper reported on Sunday, as the bank tries to rebuild after suffering large writedowns due to the financial crisis and a U.S. tax row.
But with Switzerland's largest bank still trying to reverse client withdrawals from its wealth management division, its fourth-quarter results would not be strong enough to avoid a full-year loss, the paper said, citing two unnamed sources.
A spokesman for UBS (UBS.N), set to publish fourth-quarter results on Feb. 9, would not comment.
In November, UBS chief executive Oswald Gruebel set a 3-5 year target of $15 billion annual pretax profit and said it would take about two years to reverse client withdrawals, starting from the first quarter of 2008. [ID:nLG354725]
The Swiss banking flagship posted a larger-than-expected third quarter net loss of 564 million Swiss francs ($546 million), the seventh out of eight straight quarters the Swiss bank has been unprofitable.
UBS was bailed out by the Swiss government and stood accused of helping rich Americans dodge taxes in a U.S tax litigation that is now settled. In 2008, it made a net loss of 20.9 billion francs. [ID:nLB106591] (Reporting by Catherine Bosley; Editing by Dan Lalor) ($1 = 1.033 Swiss francs)
