Israeli air strike kills three Gaza militants

GAZA (Reuters) - An Israeli air strike in the central Gaza Strip killed three Palestinian militants on Sunday, hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a "powerful" response to attacks from the territory.
An Israeli army spokesman said an Israeli aircraft carried out the strike in the Gaza Strip but gave no further details.
Palestinians said the three men were members of the Islamic Jihad militant group and were killed in a field often used to launch rockets toward Israel.
Violence has risen along the Israeli-Gaza frontier in the past month, which could further complicate U.S.-backed diplomacy in the region.
Three Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli air strikes in Gaza on Thursday, including the first air raid in months to target a site inside Gaza City.
Netanyahu told a weekly cabinet session on Sunday that 20 mortar bombs and rockets had been fired at Israel from the Hamas-ruled territory last week, vowing an "immediate and powerful response" to any such attacks in the future.
