HONOLULU Jan 13 (Reuters) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday pledged strong U.S. help after a "horrific" earthquake struck Haiti, saying U.S. forces were scrambling with basic help such as getting air traffic control working.

Clinton told reporters she would help to coordinate the U.S. relief effort from the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii, but still planned to continue on a scheduled trip to the Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia -- although it may be shortened.
