FACTBOX-Some facts about small US chip companies
BANGALORE, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The worst downturn seen by the semiconductor industry since the dot-com bust has squeezed valuations of small and mid-sized chipmakers, making them attractive targets for larger companies looking to emerge stronger from the recession. [ID:SGE5BR078]
The S&P smallcap semiconductor and semiconductor equipment index .6GSPSE shed about 47 percent of its value in 2008. Even though it rose in 2009 as the sector began to emerge from its two-year slump, it is still 25 percent off pre-recession highs.
