ZTE Dispatches Communications Equipment to Help on the Ground Community Support
SHENZHEN, China--(Business Wire)--
ZTE Corporation ("ZTE") (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code:
000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and
network solutions, today announced that it has delivered solar-powered handsets
and its GoTa trunking system to the Haiti government to provide much needed
communication equipment needed for aid efforts for the victims of the earthquake
that hit Haiti on January 14. The Company has confirmed that its 11 employees
stationed in Haiti are safe and in a healthy condition. ZTE has contacted the
employees` families to keep them informed of the current situation.
Immediately after the disaster, ZTE established a disaster response team to work
with its Haiti office to develop and provide a relief program for Haiti`s
earthquake victims. The team is focused on providing expert communication
infrastructure advice and is composed of ZTE`s executive vice presidents and
technical experts.
With the local electricity and power infrastructure destroyed by the earthquake,
priority was given to provide solar-powered handsets that could be effectively
used by relief agencies on the ground. The first batch of 1500 ZTE`s GSM solar
mobile phones were dispatched to Haiti from Jamaica in the morning of January
15, 2010.
Furthermore, in response to the local government and communication operators
needs, ZTE will also provide the Haiti government its 8900 Series 800MHz GoTa
digital trunking base stations and temporary-use mobile diesel engines. The
company has shipped the first batch of 300 GoTa terminals as part of the
disaster relief program to help the local community with important
telecommunication needs.
Previously, ZTE also donated its GoTa equipment for China`s Sichuan May 12, 2008
earthquake, where it played an outstanding role in the relief program.
According to ZTE, their 11 employees stationed in Haiti were out shopping during
the earthquake and thus escaped from the disaster unharmed. The company stressed
that the safety of their overseas employees is of paramount importance.
Moreover, ZTE expressed that they would coordinate with the Chinese Embassy, the
local government in Haiti, peacekeeping forces as well as the local operators to
participate in on-going earthquake relief services.
