Platinum rises above $1,626 to new 17-month high

TOKYO Jan 19 (Reuters) - Spot platinum rose above $1,626 per ounce to a fresh 17-month high on Tuesday, helped by the launch of a new U.S.-based exchange-traded fund backed by the metal.

Spot platinum XPT= rose as high as $1,628.00 as of 0054 GMT, up 1 percent from late London trade on Monday. (Reporting by Chikako Mogi)
