CANBERRA Jan 28 (Reuters) - A strike by workers at Woodside Petroleum Ltd (WPL.AX), Australia's No. 2 oil and gas producer, was illegal and must cease, Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Thursday.

Construction workers for Woodside's Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) project have gone on strike over housing issues, threatening the company's construction schedule and potentially driving costs higher. (Reporting by Rob Taylor; Editing by David Stamp)
